It’s finally time for Pride Festival 2026, a whole month of Pride revelry, joy and shenanigans, and after a year of waiting patiently we are kicking off with a banger. You told us how much you love the Walk for Support and how much you want to stick around once it’s done, so this year we’re proud to introduce you to a new, revamped version: the Pride Parade and Picnic. We’ll be starting at The Commons on the corner of Kilmore St and Durham St North at 2pm on Sunday the 1st of March and strutting our fine selves through the iconic wooden arches of The Commons and down into Victoria Square for an afternoon of Drag, Dance, Moana Vibes and live music. Bring a picnic blanket or chairs, your non-alcoholic drinks, and gather your friends, whānau and chosen family for an afternoon of community, entertainment, and celebration in the heart of Ōtautahi.
And this is just the beginning. Throughout February we will be announcing Pride events, Community events and all of the delicious things coming up as part of Pride Festival 2026. Expect pool parties, roller derby, supper club, the boat trip, hot pools and more bingo than you ever thought possible. Trust us, there’s something for everyone this year, and we cannot wait to celebrate with you.

There are lots of shady spaces under trees and areas that are adjacent to but not directly by the stage if you prefer a more quiet space.
Please be aware the Ōtākaro/Avon River runs through the Square, if you bring children you will need to keep an eye on them around the water.
The closest toilets are at the Margaret Mahey Park, a short walk or roll through Oxford Terrace and behind Te Pae on Cathedral Square.
The Parade part of this event is of a similar length to the previous walk for support but has flat, wide pathways with a slight decline towards the square.
The stage will be on the grass area indicated on the map, there is an incline to get onto the grass area but if you follow the pathway up to Armagh st it is a smoother journey on to the grass.
Volunteers will be available to assist and help with seating or positioning near the stage if needed.
NZ sign interpreter will be present.
There will be no flashing lights or strobes.
This event is outside but we recommend staying home if you are sick, or wearing a mask if you wish to.
This event is Smokefree and Alcohol free.
Parking/buses – There is paid parking in many areas around Victoria square, the closest bus stop is outside the Town Hall.

This event is open to the public but is especially designed for those who might not always feel at home in public pools. Come as you are, move in ways that feel right for you, and enjoy a space where you are surrounded by our community and every body belongs. A friendly team will be on hand to answer questions, help you find your way around, and introduce you to new faces if you’d like to meet some folks.
There is no additional cost for these sessions, simply turn up and pay the regular pool entry fees (though do reach out to us if cost is a barrier). There is no need to register for this event.

Whether you’re here to win prizes, support Pride, or just competitively yell numbers with strangers, this is a joyful, inclusive night celebrating our rainbow community, drag, drama, and dabbers encouraged. This is an R18 event.

Come and soak up the warmth, the music and the Pride vibes with a night at He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools, with music, entertainment and more ways to get wet than you can imagine. We’ll have the hot pools to ourselves for this ticketed event. We’re giving you the heads up so you can find the most on theme pool outfit possible!
There is ramp access into the active fitness pool and hoists for the other hot pools. There is a water wheelchair available (please reach out to the He Puna Taimoana team to arrange). Handrails have been installed to support entry into every pool.

Grab your picnic rugs, sun hats, and your party vibes because it’s time for the Pride Closing Picnic at Woodham Park! Whether you want to laze about gaily with snacks, help your kids climb to the top of the playground, avoid people and explore the aviary, or just soak up the community vibes, there’s something for everyone.
Hosted with all the aroha you’d expect from Pride, this is a space where everyone including families, whānau, and kids of all ages are welcome to come together, play, laugh, and celebrate our rainbow community. Bring your friends, your picnic basket, and your favourite snacks; we’ll provide the sunscreen and the community spirit.

Pride Moves with Moana Vā and Les Mills Christchurch
In collaboration with Moana Vā – Navigators of Pacific Pride, Les Mills Christchurch is proud to host FREE Pride Group Fitness sessions on Sunday 22 March.

This Pride Church Service offers a safe and affirming space for Rainbow whānau and allies who want to honour their faith. The service will be a short 30 minute gathering, with time afterwards for tea and kai, connection, and community.
