The Canterbury Film Society is back celebrating pride in 2026!! After the huge success of our screening of “But I’m a Cheerleader!” in 2025, we are honoured to support Christchurch Pride once again by having a free screening of the queer and drag classic “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” at the Christchurch Art Gallery on Monday 16th March 2026.
All that is asked if you attend is a (optional) gold coin donation and you get to experience one of the all time great queer classics on the big screen! Refreshments and treats will be available (at a small cost) at the event. All proceeds will be donated to Christchurch Pride!

I’m 36, I’m a comedian, and I’m about to kill my boyfriend…
From the Olivier Award-winning producers of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer comes this blisteringly funny and unnervingly honest dark comedy by Marcelo Dos Santos (Backstairs Billy).
A perpetually single, professionally neurotic stand-up finally meets his Mr. Right—and then does absolutely everything wrong. But is Mr. Right all he seems? And how far will this comedian go for the sake of a killer punchline?
With razor-sharp wit and aching vulnerability, Feeling Afraid as if Something Terrible is Going to Happen dives headfirst into modern love, ego, and the fine art of self-sabotage. Hilarity and heartbreak collide in a whip-smart, one-man confessional about intimacy, insecurity, and the danger of getting exactly what you think you want.
“The gag-count is ridiculously high… Catch it, before everyone else does.” – The Telegraph
“…funny while being uncomfortably real, sometimes devastating, and consistently entertaining.” – Salterton Arts Review

Australia’s Crown Prince of Comedy returns to the New Zealand stage after almost 10 years and his very first appearance in Christchurch.
Joel Creasey cut his teeth working in the United States with the legendary Joan Rivers before going on to host multiple TV shows, compete on the first season of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and about to make his debut on the upcoming season of Taskmaster Australia.
Join Joel as he regales you with tales that’ll make you feel much better about your life choices.
Strap in, Christchurch! Joel’s claws are sharpened, his hair is quiffed to the gods and his tongue is as barbed as ever!

We are going to be honest here, we have NO IDEA what this is going to end up being…
We are locking our Festival creator in a room with some pretty talented people to make it, but we guarantee the following: chaos, carnage, guests stars, fierce entertainment, questions, queerness and a battle for the ages where at this stage, even we don’t know how we are going to split the teams.
We are slapping an R18 rating on this event because with how the world is going, we just don’t know what the content might be and yea, the audience participation is going to be relentless.
Good luck and don’t f*ck it up!

Did somebody call for an ICON – what about a few?
What happens when you take an iconic improv show and throw two true icons of the Pacific Rainbow+ community?
Alex and MahMah are joining The Court Jesters for one special night. Unapologetically fat, queer, and proud, these dynamic personalities will be guest stars as part of Saturday Scriptless.
Presented in conjunction with Moana Vā. Bring on the chaos!

The glittery, high energy, pop musical comes to Australasia for the first time in this special concert presentation.
Jamie New is 16 and lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in. Jamie is terrified about the future. Jamie is going to be a sensation.
Supported by his brilliant, loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies, and steps out of the darkness into the spotlight.
Sixteen: the edge of possibility. Time to make your dreams come true.
Using members of the LGBTQIA+ community as the performers, this one night only event is the true spirit of community and builds on our success of The Laramie Project in 2025.

What makes a rainbow? Join drag superstar Hugo Grrrl for a musical, magical adventure exploring the science of the skies above.
Can you help find Ray The Sun, Misty The Cloud, and Wayne The Rain? Maybe even the fabulous Archie The Rainbow?! Together our wonderful weathery friends will make the mysteries of meteorology fun, all the while proving the power of glitter, dress-ups, and friendship.
Hugo’s Rainbow Show is for everyone! Best for two to ten year olds and our neurodivergent whānau, but even big kids will love this wholesome, goofy and glamorous experience.
